SuperDARN Working Groups Information

SuperDARN implements a number of working groups to enhance and aid the international effort of collecting, analyzing and disseminating data over a wide number of countries and academic institutions.

Data Analysis Working Group (DAWG)

DAWG is responsible for maintaining, improving and distributing software for analyzing SuperDARN radar data for use by scientists and students.

The DAWG website is: superdarn.github.io/dawg/

DAWG manages a number of software libraries including...

Data Distribution Working Group (DDWG)

DDWG is charged with maintaining the protocols for transferring Level 1 data files from PI institutions, first to holding institutions and ultimately to distribution institutions where they are merged, checked, catalogued and copied to servers for community access.

Data Standards Working Group (DSWG)

The DSWG maintains support for a common standard distributed data format, while addressing issues created by interfacing new and independent technological advancements in radar hardware systems. Along with developing standards of practice, under the advisement of the Data Policy Task Force and corresponding data policies, to move towards FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and re-usable) data practices.

The DSWG fills some duties of the defunct Operating Software Working Group

Data Visualization Working Group (DVWG)

The DVWG maintains, improves, documents and distributes software for visualizing SuperDARN radar data for use by scientists, engineers, and students.

Scheduling Working Group (SWG)

SWG is responsible for the preparation of a detailed operating plan for each month which is allocated between Common Time, Special Time, and Discretionary Time.

Spacecraft Working Group (ScWG)

ScWG works with spacecraft missions to maximize collaboration with SuperDARN. The group primarily makes requests to the Scheduling Working Group for time on the network that benefits certain missions.
